Companies that provide insurance producer services in North Carolina must apply for a license prior to doing
business. Depending on the lines of authority offered by the entity and the types of services offered, multiple
firm licenses may be required.
Before applying, firms should ensure that the licensed individual to be appointed agent in charge has the
necessary licenses. Firms should also gather proof of incorporation, or foreign qualification for out-of-state
firms, in anticipation of application requirements.
Biographical affidavits of TPA officers and director, By-laws of TPA, Organizational documents of TPA, such as articles of incorporation, partnership agreement, etc., including all amendments, Narrative discussing internal controls of TPA operations, General description of business operations, Executed copy of the administrator's power of attorney, ONLY for non-domestic TPA. A list of the TPA officers and directors, a list of insurance companies with which the TPA has administrative agreements & certification that company will provide signed copy if requested, current evidence that the TPA employs a licensed agent, ONLY if the TPA solicits new or renewal insured business, current evidence of E&O or liability insurance, and copy of current domestic license - ONLY if TPA is a non-domestic company.
North Carolina Utilization Review License
Not required
Utilization Review licensure is not required on the State level in North Carolina.
North Carolina does not license utilization review entities, but health care providers may need to certify that their review procedures follow state law.

North Carolina Auto Physical Damage License - Non-Resident
North Carolina will recertify Non-Resident Producer licenses by reviewing their license status in their Home State. If a Non-Resident Insurance Producer's Home State license(s) are in good standing their North Carolina Non-Resident Insurance Producer license(s) will be extended.
North Carolina Insurance Producer License - Resident
Insurance Producer Licenses do not renew and are valid until surrendered, canceled or revoked in respect to the following: Life, Accident & Health or Sickness, Property, Casualty, Personal Lines, Medicare Supplement Long-Term Care, Variable Life and Variable Annuity Products.
