APEGA Licensee

Licensees have met all requirements for an engineering or geoscience license, similar to professional members, but are not permanent residents or Canadian citizens.

APEGA Member-in-Training

APEGA Permit to Practice

Agency:Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
Eligible Entity Types:
  • Corporation
  • Partnership
  • Association
  • Sole Practitioner (NOT a sole proprietorship): this is defined as a permit holder for which the senior officer and responsible member are the same person and therefore, an APEGA member and the only member listed on the permit OR a permit holder for which the senior officer is not an APEGA member and the responsible member is the only APEGA member listed on the permit

Ownership Requirements:

The senior officer need not be a licensed professional but must be in a position of authority to enter into this legal agreement on behalf of the company. The senior officer holds the signing authority to make decisions on behalf of the permit holder and legally binds the permit holder to the permit-to-practice agreement. The responsible member of the permit must be an APEGA-licensed professional.

Notes:
  • No partnership, corporation or other entity may be incorporated or registered in the Province of Alberta under a name including the words "Engineering", "Geology", "Geophysics" or "Geoscience", or variations of those words unless it holds and continues to hold a valid permit issued under section 48. 
  • Although the website states a joint architecture and engineering licenses is an available license type, per the province they are not currently offering Joint Firm Licenses. To practice as both an architecture and engineering firm, a business must complete these registrations separately through the appropriate agency.

Notes:
  • Once approved a confirmation letter, along with an official APEGA permit to practice certificate will be mailed by the postal service. This certificate should be displayed in a prominent public location to indicate the company is entitled to engage in the practices of engineering, geoscience, or both. 
  • The senior officer will be granted access to the myAPEGA company profile to manage the permit holder's information. To access this account, the senior officer will need to login to their personal myAPEGA account and then select the company profile in the upper-right-hand corner, under their name.

  • Proof of Alberta Corporate Registry registration
  • One signed Section 8 for each responsible member of multiple permit holders

Notes:

Notifications will be sent via email prior to the Permit to Practice annual renewal. These notifications will prompt confirmation of the company's registrant list, completion of the company's annual declaration, and payment of the company's annual permit fees. 

APEGA Professional Licensee
