Corporations

• 50% of the Board of Directors are licensed Ontario Land Surveyors and members of the Association
• At least one director or full-time employee of the corporation is a licensed member of the Association who agrees to personally supervise and direct the practice of cadastral surveying for the corporation

Partnerships

• 50% of the partners are licensed Ontario Land Surveyors and members of the Association
• At least one partner or full-time employee of the partnership is a licensed member of the Association who agrees to personally supervise and direct the practice of cadastral surveying for the partnership

Every professional member who holds a certificate of authorization or practices under the authority of a partnership, or corporation that holds a certificate of authorization shall have insurance coverage for liability for errors, omissions, and negligent acts arising out of the performance or non-performance of all services within the practice of professional surveying offered or provided to the public by the member. The minimum amounts of coverage are $500,000 per occurrence and $1,000,000 per year for all occurrences. 

• The name of a partnership holding a Certificate of Authorization shall be:
  • If its members are the same persons recorded on the register of the Association on December 31, 1969, the name used by those members
  • The name or names of one or more persons who are professional members engaged with each other in the practice of professional surveying or
  • The name or names of one or more of the principal members of each corporation that forms a partnership engaged in the practice of professional surveying
• The name of a corporation holding a Certificate of Authorization shall not be:
  • A number name
  • Self-Laudatory
  • Otherwise Misleading
• Members and companies engaged only in other branches of professional surveying, such as Photogrammetry, Hydrography, Geodesy, and Geographic Information Management do not require a certificate of authorization but may choose to acquire one.
• At the time of application, the surveyor must have engaged in the practice of professional surveying during the preceding five-year period and as a guideline, should have gained experience in cadastral surveying for a minimum of 3-5 years since commissioning.

At least one director, partner, or full-time employee of the corporation or partnership is a licensed member of the Association who agrees to personally supervise and direct the practice of cadastral surveying for the corporation or partnership.
