This morning, I got a phone call.
It was a gentleman interested in starting a public charity, in order to raise money to build a local skate park. The skate park, he said, is a huge need in his community.
A perfectly normal conversation, so far.
Until he told me he works 60 hours a week at his full-time job. Working an 8-6 AND starting a nonprofit on the side? This guy must be crazy!
He’s not crazy; he’s an entrepreneur!
Entrepreneurs know the importance of their time. Successful ones pack their schedules with high-value activities, which benefit their businesses, their communities, and occasionally, themselves.
Having mastered time management, these entrepreneurs are able to translate their burning passions into a drive to succeed. The best part is, you can do this too!
If it sounds intimidating, start small. Try these four tips instead!
- Do you have a great idea for a business? It’s called a side hustle for a reason. Don’t quit your day job; just do it!
- Do you feel the urge to give back to the community? Volunteer. Start a nonprofit.
- Do you feel intellectually un-stimulated? Turn off the TV, and pick up a book. Listen to some Chopin.
- Do you feel disconnected from your friends and family? Make some time for them. Reconnect.
So let me ask you again: how are you spending your free time, and what’s holding you back?
